The study and preservation of our nation's cultural resources should be important to everyone. Cultural resources are considered part of the environment, and federal, state, and local governments have enacted various laws that call for the evaluation and protection of these resources prior to development. Impacts to cultural resources can be direct or indirect depending upon the nature and specifics of a project.
There are three basic phases in evaluating cultural resources. These include Phase I cultural resources inventories (or surveys), Phase II evaluations that involve subsurface testing of the resources to determine their importance according to law, and Phase III data recovery programs for the treatment of important cultural resources that may be impacted by a proposed development. Additionally, monitoring programs are also utilized to recover additional data from an archaeological deposit as well as to protect sensitive finds such as human remains.
While the study of archaeological sites are performed for the public benefit, the location of such resources is considered confidential information. This protection is required to help prevent destruction and damage to the resources from relic collectors. Therefore, only very general locational information will be presented in this section of our site. However, we hope that the information presented in this section of our site will provide a representative sample of the type of studies we undertake as well as some interesting information on our nation's cultural heritage.
Presented below is a listing of some of the more interesting investigations our firm has performed over the last several years. Unfortunately, it is not reasonable to include every project we have conducted.
